How to organize circular knitting needles is one of knitting’s biggest challenges. With different sized cords that can curl and tangle it is hard to find the perfect place to keep needles both organized and accessible. That is until now! Let us show you how to organize circular needles so you can always find them when you need them.
While we’ve have found some success storing our needles in a binder or a box, we have never stopped looking for the most perfect organizational system. Solutions, we have found, appear in the most unexpected places. We finally found organizational bliss with photo cases.
Organize your circular needles by size by storing them in small photo storage boxes that fit into a larger organizer case.
This large photo storage box, which you can find here, holds sixteen individual 4×6 inch cases. We labeled each case with its own size and put the corresponding needles inside. We love the clear cases so we can see what’s inside, but if you love color, you can find rainbow storage boxes, too.
For our most common needles we created a case especially for them. Can you believe we have eight pairs of 24″ US 6 needles? But other lengths of our less popular needles share a case.
To make matters even more organized, we created these Needle Inventory cards to put inside each case. Just fill out what needles live inside and how many you have, so you know what you have at a glance. Pro tip: when you take out a pair of needles, leave a note as to which project you’re using it for. This way you will know exactly where it is when you need it.
If you have extra cases in your new Needle Case, consider filling it with a needle gauge, tape measure, and pen so that you can measure and record your needles.
Keeping your needles organized means less time searching for needles and more time knitting. It’s a great feeling to finally have them organized, so what are you waiting for?!
